Holding It All at the Farm: Love, Grief, Joy, and Four New Hens
While there are a plethora of recent and exciting developments I could highlight, there is one that truly stands out… Our Reseda farm received a long-awaited addition: our four beautiful hens! They hatched in June of 2025, and we received them as young chickens. Since then, they've grown exponentially! From pullet to laying age, we've learned so much from them and are lucky to call them our own. Their personalities have grown, and we're getting to know them each as they also get to know all of us. They laid their first eggs only a few weeks ago, and we really couldn’t contain our excitement (or should I say egg-citement…). We've built them a large fenced-in enclosure for free roaming, and boy are they loving it! Our banana pit is within their fence, and their new favorite activity is scratching around the trees in search of grubs. On hot days, we set out the sprinkler to cool the girls off, and they run around like my sister and I used to in our front yard - it really brings me back! They get to explore more of the farm now, and are (perhaps begrudgingly) getting more comfortable with being pet and picked up. It's a gift when someone new learns to pick up one of our hens, and we get to witness the pure joy on their face! It's all about trust and care. And delicious eggs. Thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers for your support in creating a beautiful and safe home for our babies. And thank you to our sponsors and our greater community, we really couldn’t do it without you! Now is a time to feel it all: love, community, grief, joy, pain, growth. We’re so honored to hold all of you in our company, in our garden, and in our hearts. We are here for you, and are steadfast in our dedication to creating a space of peace, connection, solidarity, safety, education, and joy! Come see us soon.
In solidarity and gardening ❤️
